What does recovery look like after meniscus repair surgery?
Meniscus repair recovery is more protected at the start than a trim, because the stitches need time to hold while the tear heals, and then it moves quickly. Most patients are walking normally by six to eight weeks, back in the gym and jogging at about three months, doing everything by four months, and back to cutting and pivoting sports at about six months. The roadmap below walks through each stage. If you have already had surgery, enter your surgery date and it will show you which stage you are in and what comes next.
How you walk for the first six weeks depends on your repair. A small repair (one or two stitches) changes nothing: full weight on the leg from day one. A larger repair means full weight with the brace locked straight for six weeks, and some larger repairs start with half weight for the first three weeks. A root repair means toe-touch weight bearing on crutches for six weeks. The roadmap lists each case in the stages it affects, and your post-op instructions say which one is yours.
